Bye Bye Meta
Research, ongoing
Bye Bye Meta is research into how cultural institutions came to depend on platforms they were never built for, and how they could leave. It proposes a roadmap for Brussels' cultural institutions to leave Meta together by 2028.
The research was first presented as the talk Dependency by Design at the Beursschouwburg in Brussels on 17 June 2026, during the OUT of LOVE festival. The essay of the same name follows from it.
This website runs on the same principle: no analytics, no tracking, and an email list and RSS feed instead of a feed someone else controls.
Talks
- Alternatives in Infrastructure for Cultural Institutions
- Dependency by Design, Beursschouwburg, Brussels
The second talk's date and venue will be announced in the calendar. Institutions that want to talk about the roadmap can get in touch.
